YONG BELAR (2,181 M) 18 TO 19 MAY 2008 PHOTOS (DAY 2) Descended from the summit via the same route. We got lost for an hour+ while were were trying to explore the new way out via the abandoned house. Thank god, we managed to find the way out via a new route. It was a blessing in disguise that the new route discovered by 11 of us can help to save the journey from the starting point to the entrance of the mossy forest by one hour. Turn left at the river and back trek to original place. Turn left again to find the way out but something not right then back trek to original place. Finally we decided to follow Wen Bing's direction. Just follow the pipes direction and the flow of the river. As I hiked further along the pipes, I had a feeling that the pipes will lead us back to the border stone junction. Finally, it was true. The pipes led us to the border stone junction. That was whereby we saw the pipes from the vegetable farm at the beginning of the hike. Reason for me to go was to overcome the fear that haunts me since 25 October 2006. Fear ? Fear of not reaching Ke Kasut and summit. Fear of not able to find the way out due to darkness. First day hike took 8 hrs 52 min (including resting time) to the summit. CANTIK (1,802M OR 5,910 FT) - 30 DECEMBER 2007 Thanks to Agnes for planning the itinery for the 3 days 2 nights relaxed hiking trip and booking the accomodation at MNS Research Centre. First day (29/12/2007), departed from PJ to Cameron Highlands. Stopped half way at Bidor for breakfast cum lunch. Passed SImpang Pulai and drove up to Cameron Highlands. Later we had some ice cream at Tringkap. Then, we headed down to Tanah Rata for some scone and tea drinking session. After that we headed to MNS Research Centre at Habu, which is located after Tanah Rata but before Ringlet. Went on a day hike to Mt. Cantik on 30 December 2007 from MNS Research Centre with colleague, ex-colleague and friend of my colleague / ex-colleague. The day before we spent a night in the chalet at MNS Research Centre in Cameron Highlands. After the hike, we went for a tour in the Boh Tea Factory and had some tea and scone at the tea shop. It's risky and dangerous. This was my fifth times doing night hiking. Intially, we started at 4.30 p.m. since we arrived late at starting point. Noticed that the entrance to the jungle trail at starting point has changed since the last time I came in late May 2007. Confusing and we wasted around 15 min+ to look for the correct trail. Thanks to Foo Tat for helping to find the correct and obvious trail for me to lead the group. We reached the last water point at 7 p.m. It was quite dark and we had to switch on our headlamps. We had completed approximately 2/3 of our journey and e had 1/3 more to go. The 1/3 of the journey took us hiking under the darkness. At certain trail I was unsure whether I was heading towards the right and obvious trail since some trail was so steep. My headlamps began to become less shinning and it was my mistake for not hecking the battery level first before the hike.
